Welcome to Women Build 2005!
We are so excited about building our next house! This year's project is called Women Build - Go 4 It! It is amazing to think that we are in the midst of building our fourth house!
This year we will be working with our partner family The Torres. The Torres family is a multigenerational family: grandparents, parents, and three children! Construction has already begun as of January 29, 2005. We are building a four bedroom, two story home within the City of Charlottesville.
We can use all kinds of volunteers right now! If you are interested in volunteering as a group or individual, please contact Laura Aurisy. For construction crew leader volunteers, please contact Lindsay Kidd. Click here to see the Build Schedule!
We are so excited to announce, as part of their involvement in this year's Women Build, LOWE'S, one of our sponsor, is putting together a series of clinics and hands-on demonstrations! This can become a great asset to the Women Build, as women who may not have had exposure to certain aspects of building can have a chance to get some training before they go on site! Click here to see the Lowe's Training Schedule! If you are interested in attending one or more of the training sessions, please contact Sarah Burditt.
Women Build of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville
was founded in the fall of 2001 with the purpose of bringing
together Charlottesville area women to organize, fund and
construct homes for low-income working families and their
children. You can participate by helping us with construction, fundraising, committee work,
or by making a donation to the address below.
Last year's Women Build Project started with a Wall Raising on September 14, 2003 in Schuyler - more than 350 local area women joined us, our partners and the Junior League of Charlottesville to help build a new home for the Suarez Family.
It is time to break out those hammers as women from all over our community, again, join together with our partners, the Junior League of Charlottesville and many local organizations! We are so excited about our growing list of sponsors who will be helping with the cost of the build. See our growing list of 2005 sponsors by clicking here.
Women Build funds and constructs a home while working alongside a partner family. This annual project promotes volunteerism, teaches valuable skills, and develops leadership potential among area women and girls through hands-on learning experiences. It provides a comfortable place to learn building skills and leadership, while providing affordable housing in partnership with a local low-income working family.
Current needs
for volunteers are four-fold. 1. Volunteers that have building and
or leadership experience to serve as crew leaders and site supervisors
during the build. 2. Volunteers that are comfortable on a work site
swinging a hammer, cutting a two by four, or painting a room.
3. Unskilled workers who have the can do attitude and are
not afraid of trying something new and can follow easy instructions while
working side by side with more experienced volunteers. On-site training will
be provided to those who need it. 4. Volunteers for non-construction committee
work. If you fit any of these descriptions, we need you!
