What We're Building Now

Sunrise Park

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville is currently building single family attached homes and condo units at Sunrise Park, the first trailer park transformation in the nation without resident displacement. When complete in 2013, Sunrise will be a beautiful, mixed-income and mixed use neighborhood of up to 66 homes and quality community space. View current progress at Sunrise.

Cleveland Avenue-Thomas Jefferson Community Land Trust

Habitat is partnering with the Thomas Jefferson Community Land Trust to build two homes on Cleveland Avenue in the City. In this partnership, the land trust will retain ownership of the land and the Habitat homeowners will own the improvements. This will mean that our Partner Families will have smaller mortgages and save on taxes, while maintaining full rights to use the land through a 99-year ground lease. When they sell, the home is guaranteed to stay affordable because the next buyer will not have to pay for the appreciation in land value.

Groundbreaking is scheduled for May 2012 and the Sugwigano family (pictured below)is the first of two families to choose a lot on Cleveland Avenue.
