We invite young children and families to partner with Habitat through a range of safe, age-appropriate activities. For more information about any of these activities, contact Volunteer Engagement Associate Amy Allamong at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call our office at 434-293-9066.
Habitat Lunch Bunch
Prepare and deliver food to the jobsite for our volunteers and Partner Families. “Lunch Bunch” volunteers prepare and deliver a meal or snack to our construction volunteers during the lunch hour. This activity offers youth groups, scouts, and families with young children an opportunity to meet regular volunteers and construction staff -- and to learn more about our organization and our current building projects -- in an environment that is safe for even the youngest Habitat supporters. The construction site is open Tuesday-Saturday.
Many families support Habitat by establishing a family donation or change jar. (We are happy to provide a Habitat paint can or wooden house for this purpose). The family collects spare change at their own discretion and then donates the jar after a set amount of time. This parallels the Nickels for Nails campaign we host with school and youth groups and is a great way for younger kids to visualize what their small contributions can achieve.
Help with set-up, food service, or hospitality at one of our joyful home dedications, neighborhood celebrations or other special event. Kids are welcome and often enjoy passing out programs, blowing up balloons, or welcoming guests.
