Non-Construction Volunteer Although construction volunteers are vital to Habitat, we also need non-construction volunteers to help with the following:

Family Advocate.
Habitat needs people who would be willing to volunteer three or four hours a month as Family Advocates. Our Family Support committee can train you to work with a family and be their liaison with Habitat from the time they are approved as a partner family until they move into their new home and beyond. Other people provide expertise on budgeting and homeowner skills. The advocates provide friendship and moral support.

Office Volunteer and Special Projects Volunteer.
Habitat relies very heavily on behind the scenes volunteers who work in our office once or twice a week. After a few weeks most of them take on special projects or develop specialties that Habitat needs, such as helping a particular committee with phone calls or entering data. We couldn't build houses without these volunteers behind the scenes.

Grant Writing Volunteer.
Habitat for Humanity needs volunteers who are willing to help our development director prepare grant proposals or keep up with the paperwork on grants we already have. Some proposals require some grant experience and others are simpler and can be done very effectively by a volunteer with no grant writing experience, just time and willingness to learn. It's very rewarding work because the volunteer can have such a huge impact on Habitat's ability to work with more families.

Landscaping Coordinator.
One or two garden-happy persons to coordinate landscaping of our houses once they are finished. This includes searching for discounted or donated plants, working with the partner families to know where they would like some plantings, and scheduling a landscaping day with the sponsoring volunteer groups to do the planting. We'll give you a list of contacts.

Communications and PR Committee Members.
Help spread the good works of Habitat! Our Communications Committee will help make Habitat better known to our community. Will also work closely with several other Habitat committees to publicize certain needs or volunteers opportunities, and for special Habitat events. Will also work on our bi-annual newsletter.

Volunteer Coordination Committee Members: Special Events Volunteers.
Volunteers who help occasionally throughout the year with Habitat related functions, some are organized by GCHFH and for some we are the beneficiary of an event organized by another group.

Site Selection Committee.
Join our team as we search for reasonably priced land to buy. We want to continue our tradition of offering our Partner Families a choice of city or county and to have the ability to build in clusters. Help Habitat find and assess land. We need more Real-estate Agents, Lawyers, Appraisers, and Contractors to help us determine what land is appropriate for us to buy.

Habitat Store.
The Habitat Store needs volunteers to help with customer service and processing donations. The Store sells new and used building materials donated by the local community. And proceeds go towards the construction of Habitat for Humanity homes in the Charlottesville area. Contact Carla at 293-6331 or carla@cvillehabitatstore.org for more info.

To volunteer for any of these roles, please call (434) 293-9066 or go to our calendar to sign up online.
