Volunteer Opportunities:

TWO NEW VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT THE STORE in 2012:

Department Heads We are looking for volunteers who want to serve as Department Head of one of the sections we have in the store.  You can be the head of:  Windows & Doors; Plumbing; Paint; Appliances; Miscellaneous; or, Hardware.  Department Heads will be responsible for supporting staff by ensuring that their department is clean, well-stocked and organized.  This job requires a commitment of at least one shift per week.

Craig's List Solicitation Volunteer  Habitat now communicates with Craig's List-ers to encourage them to donate their items to the Habitat Store in the event they are unable to sell them.  We have created an e-mail message template, as well as an excel spreadsheet for keeping track of our contacts and responses. Detail oriented person comfortable with Excel would enjoy this job. Current requirement is 4-6 hours per week.

OUR REGULAR OPPORTUNITIES:

Cashier/Customer Service  Volunteers in this position help run the cash register, answer phone calls, assist customers with questions, and provide some general administrative assistance to the staff. If you enjoy meeting and talking to new people this position is for you. We have current need for volunteer cashiers on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

Pick-up/Receiving  If you can lift 50 lbs or more you are fit for this position. Volunteers go out with staff to pick up large donations and assist customers with loading and unloading merchandise at the store.

Donation Station  Members of the community bring in items for donation all day during business hours. Volunteers in this position will be thoroughly trained in what we can and cannot accept for donation. You will be the friendly face of Habitat to the community and get the first look at new merchandise!

Furniture Assembly  The store periodically receives shipments of unassembled overstock furniture. Volunteers help sort through and build furniture any day time during business hours. If you would like to work with your hands in a quiet, cool environment, contact the store to find out when we receive shipments.

Deconstruction  The Habitat Store receives some donations from deconstruction projects. Volunteers with experience in deconstruction provide assistance with these projects.

Community Service  We are happy to help you complete community service hours. An in-store interview is required for all community service volunteers.

Service Groups  The Habitat Store loves service groups! We would be happy to incorporate your group into the store’s daily workings. Opportunities may include some special projects in addition to the categories listed above. Academic, civic, faith-based, and corporate groups all provide vital assistance to the store.

Special Skills  Do you have any special skills including construction, electrical, handyman, etc.? You can help maintain the store by assisting with special projects.
