What We Build
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville builds homes, neighborhoods and community.
We partner with hard-working, low-income local residents called Partner Families who join together with volunteers to build simple, decent, affordable homes. This building model has helped us serve more than 100 families since our affiliate's founding in 1991.
The high cost of land in the area, combined with a desire to create great communities and not just homes, has led us to our New Paradigm for Affordable Housing. The New Paradigm places an emphasis on mixed-income neighborhoods, denser housing types (such as duplexes, quadruplexes and even larger multifamily condo buildings) and green building.
We are currently building at Sunrise, the first trailer park transformation in the country without resident displacement. When complete in 2013, Sunrise will be a beautiful neighborhood of front and back porches and open space for the entire community to use.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville's goal is to build homes for at least 20 Partner Families a year by 2014.
