YOUTH UNITED MAIN         YU PROJECTS         DONATE TO YU         MEMBER SCHOOLS

Youth United Logo putting their love into action

Youth United is a Habitat for Humanity program that brings community youth ages 5-25 together to fully sponsor and build a home with a local family. The youth are the leaders, planners, fundraiser's, public relations specialists, and builders.

They work together to raise money and awareness, while youth ages 16-25 build the house on site. Most importantly, through this program youth help fulfill a family's dream of having their own home. It is the adventure of a lifetime!

The Latest...

Construction.
We are currently building at 318 Valley Rd in partnership with the Ware family. Ms Deborah Ware is a single mother of 4 children. She has a 19-year-old daughter (Rita), 16-year-old boy/girl twins (Catherine and Joseph) and an 11-year-old daughter (Kizy). This is a 4-bedroom two-family townhome cosponsored by the UVA InterGreek Council.

Additionally, work is about to begin at 517 & 519 Paton Street in partnership with the Duarte & Cook families.  St. Thomas Aquinas is co-sponsor of this project site and we will work alternate work weekends.  Mark your calendar now for the kick-off event on February 23rd and look for even more opportunities to build coming soon!

Jingjing Cui from AHS and Jenny Ross from WAHS are the volunteer coordinator co-chairs. They will be arranging work crews. Click on the "Member Schools" link above to find your school contact. Please remember that anyone under the age of 18 will need their parents/ guardians to sign off on a liability form found here. Also, unless otherwise stated, please bring your own lunch. We are so excited to be building!!

Fundraising.
WAHS is hosting Destination Imagination on Saturday, March 17th. YU will be assisting in providing concessions. If you want to volunteer for a two hour shift and/or donate a baked good please contact Kathleen Garson from WAHS at kg4489@yahoo.com We especially need adult volunteers. We need converge from 8am-6pm. Please come out and help. Lorrie Walter from Habitat for Humanity International joined us at our meeting to tell us about a $10,000 State Farm Grant opportunity for YU sponsoring groups. We decided as a group to move forward with the process. I will be doing Phase 1 of the application, but Phase 2 will be completed as a group at our April meeting. It is a matching grant that could almost complete fundraising for our 3rd house!!

Communications.
I am happy to announce that YU was highlighted in the May issue of Albemarle Family.
